The Window is a piece I made following the devastation of Hurricane Helene in 2024. I was displaced to Orlando, FL less than a week after the flood, and I thought my life in Asheville to be over. I'd survived a somewhat significant (some might say traumatic) event, lost my job as the Director of Fun (at Asheville River Cabins), and a lot of other nonsense, but more importantly, I'd discovered that I'd made true, meaningful community in Asheville.
Gallerist Rob Czart Gallery trudged through the wreckage of the River Arts District and gathered a number of artifacts. His call for artists to create art with the debris called my ass back to Asheville. The Window is Artifact No. 4, and tells my story of the flood in five parts. In panels 1-5, it expresses the initial shock and trauma of what was going down, then the cooperation with neighbors to make it through the flood, then my being displaced from Asheville, my return to the city just 2.5 weeks later, and lastly rebuilding with community and a sense of love.
These are just some pics i took during the flood.
